Monal Restaurant

Monal Restaurant Islamabad, located in Margalla Hills, actually built on land that was allocated to Pakistan Military. CDA officials confirmed handing over authorization of Monal Restaurant to Pakistan Army.

CDA Member Planning, Dr. Shahid Mahmood informed National Assembly Standing Committee on Climate Change about this case. He said almost twenty thousand acre of land previously owned by Punjab government. Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP) now sprawled over this land.

But 5,500 acres out of aforementioned land is property of Pakistan Army. However, the date of allocation not stated. Furthermore, Monal Restaurant claimed to built on respective land.

Objections & Critique on Monal Restaurant

Committee chairperson, MNA Munaza Hassan raised a valid question. She questioned the authorities to allow the such-large scale restaurant inside MNHP. This national park constructed to conserve wildlife in Capital. She demanded CDA to present report regarding the issue.

In addition, Climate Change Joint Secretary Suleman Warraich also informed the attendees regarding the breach of climate environment protection laws. Monal Resturant Islamabad leased out to third party by CDA in 2006 for PFR 3.12Million annually. Moreover, CDA also found guilty of not imposing tax on third party for expanding business by renting space to shops, kiosk, private vendors and others.
